Today was our first big interview day in El Shaddai Primary School, Theta. Carolyne & Ruth each had teams of translators with them as they met each child (with a parent or guardian) and filled in our form with details of how they are getting on. Sharon and Liberty worked on other things – heights, weights, photos and helping the children draw a picture or write a letter for their sponsor.
Today we were meeting the children already on the child sponsorship scheme. Tomorrow we will take on new children that George has identified as being in particular need.
“Need” here is a much mnore extreme thing than in the UK. The poverty line is defined much “lower” and almost eeverybody we meet would be considered to be in poverty if they lived in the UK. For example, many families in the community would only eat meat one day a year – on Christmas Day.
The Children are lovely. Loads of personality. Lots to say. Attitude everywhere.
