The Grassroots project in Tanzania is based in Mbeya near the border with Zambia. The area is poor, but since 1998 thousands of children have been supported through primary and secondary schools and even university.
Run by a team of local people who understand the needs of their community, Grassroots’ work in Tanzania is applauded by local government for it’s long term vision and community changing results. Crime is down- hope is up!
To sponsor a child in Tanzania costs between £3.50 (Primary School) and £15 (Secondary School). Your sponsorship money, 100% of which is spent on the children (details here), pays for:
Sponsorship Plus allows you to overpay an extra monthly amount and this money will be used for additional support, perhaps unusual medical needs or as a buffer when currency fluctuations go against us.
Fancy supporting a family with the gift of a cow? Concerned about the African night-time chill and want to give some blankets ? Our gift store provides numerous opportunities to buy small or large items for the projects that make a real difference. You can buy them in your own name or on behalf of someone else – alternative gifts.
Volunteer teams from Grassroots visits the project twice a year, usually in May and November. They interview the children and enrol more onto the scheme. It is hard work, but an awesome experience that has changed the worldview of many. We take people from 18 to 80.
