TOP PRIORITY! Food! Zambia Famine Crisis!
Recommended Price £50.00
Many in Zambia are going hungry. This is rainy season and there has not been a drop of rain for 2 months. The maize crops and ground nuts have failed.
Message from Mellbin who heads up the Grassroots programme in Zambia….
“Good evening Sharon,
Happy blessed Sunday to you and your family. I am extremely grateful that you have indeed gotten wind of the situation here in Zambia regarding prolonged dry spells that has left many fields and many families affected. Serious crop failure is evident and the President has declared a national disaster or emergency. I was about to inform you of this situation now glad you already heard. Please join us in praying for a lot of families affected. This year a lot people made strides cultivate but the rain pattern has not been favourable. Thank you.
Grassroots is going to try and provide emergency food parcels- 25kg.milaie meal costs around £5. We hope to start delivering packs to families as soon as possible as the lack of food is already badly affecting people. This could be a problem until July when the next harvest arrives.”
Our aim is to raise £5000 as quickly as we can and provide emergency meals (cooked and provided in the church centres) and to give 5 monthly 25kg milaie meal bag to each family in the 5 communities Grassroots has sponsored children.
Please help!
(This photograph was taken when we visited one of the community schools in Zambia to meet the sponsored children there. The local church, with the tiny resources they had, provided this sugar paste as a meal for the children. It looked very bland but every child ate every last bit on their plate. They are very hungry children. Our aim is to provide a bit more money so that meals the churches provide can have a better and more mixed nutrition.)
To Sponsor a Zambian child so that they get uniform, a place in school, school supplies and a family food parcel costs just £4.25 per month (£51 per year). Click here for more information.
