Hi
It´s been a while since I have updated everyone with a prayer newsletter and I apologise for that! Please do not presume that nothing is happening here though! We are still out on the streets of Veronicas every week and God continues to amaze us in all that he is doing here amongst the 18-30´s.
God has been speaking to us about prayer and entering into a new season of renewed prayer and so we ask you to continue to stand with us and pray with us over this community, the centre and his plans and purposes for this place.
The Centre
For those of you who have followed the journey that The Living Room has been on over the past few years, you will know that we are still in the process of refurbishing and refreshing the centre to make it a great place for the community, this can be a slow process with the red tape on the island so please pray this will be sped up and we can be ready to open again very soon as the young people of Veronicas are desperate for us to be open! However we are excited about the summer and re-opening once and for all with a bang!
People
Our relationships with the girls in the lapdance bars has grown really strong over the last year. I have become really close to one girl in particular and sit with her for hours each week. She pours out her troubles to me and we chat things through. She often says its her favourite point of the week and that it´s time “for her”. I have been meeting up with her in my personal time as well and feel God is really blessing the friendship. She rings me up when she is in trouble and needs someone to talk to and I feel like she really values the love she receives from us. She knows I pray for her although she is closed to God herself although she admitted for the first time a few months ago that she attended church when she was younger for a while but an elderly man had upset her with a very judgemental comment and she had never been back ( a warning to us all!) Please pray she would continue to open up and that her heart would also open up to Jesus.
Another girl who works in one of the other lapdance bars: I have also spent many hours chatting to her over the years. She needed some help translating at the hospital and I offered to go with her to help. We were waiting over 4 hours for two weeks in a row which gave us a great chance to chat and catch up. She let me pray for her health issue to during that time so please pray for healing for her and that she too would open up to Jesus.
One night as I was on the way home, another girl stopped me and suddenly asked me out of the blue “if I wanted children” and the conversation progressed onto marriage, Christianity and why I followed Jesus. I told her my testimony and she said she used to go to church but she never really believed it and the thing that really stopped her believing was that in her life she had only ever seen the bad people get blessed and good people suffer. We chatted about that and how God is giving everyone chance to turn to him but that ultimately people will have to answer to him and give an account for their lives BUT that we can be saved through what Jesus has done for us. Was a great opportunity. She shared some things about her background which has been incredibly difficult and painful. Please pray the words sink into her heart and that we can get more chance to continue these chats with her as she said she would come to church with us too.
Lads
There is a guy who I have been getting to know over the last few weeks. He is really good fun and easy to chat to. He always looks forward to us coming around and stands chatting with us for ages. He has a day job in the same block that I live in and so he has been calling around on his breaks to cook his dinner and have a cup of tea. I would love to have a good conversation with him about Jesus so please pray for opportunities as I feel God is in this friendship.
