The Living Room is a centre situated on the infamous strip of bars in Tenerife called “Veronicas”. We aim to reach people through love, support and friendship and use the centre as a way of doing that. Many from the community come to chill out, chat, use the internet, play pool, table tennis, find job or accommodation information or hang out with friends. Some, however, come out of a real sense of need when their party lifestyle on the island gets to them. This means that beneath the great atmosphere of people laughing and joking around there’s a lot more going on. We support people, listen to people, share our testimonies and pray with people too. God gives us so many opportunities to speak into people’s lives and to share His love with them.
What does coming out on a Mission Team involve?
As a team member you will:
- help staff The Living Room during the day,
- walk the streets at night to chat to the workers and holidaymakers,
- visit the bars and clubs of Las Americas to dance and pray with the people we meet,
- be part of regular prayer and worship sessions,
- hang out in the places where people are during the day,
- visit different places to walk and pray,
- be part of a passionate church who longs to see its community saved.
- And of course… Spend time socialising and inviting people we meet on the streets to come spend time with us as we hang out and soak up the sun together.
How long does a Mission Team last?
This depends which option you choose:
Option A – You will be joining a team of 6 – 8 people recruited nationally in the UK. You will have an experienced team leader and will all then join The Living Room for two weeks.
Option B – You will join The Living Room Team for a longer placement. Individuals can choose how many months they would like to commit. Minimum = 1 month.
Which option should I pick?
Option A – Will give you a good all round taste of the work. People usually find they are really touched by God during their time here and have some good conversations about God with people from the community.
Option B – Will allow you to build significant relationships with people from the community and really make a difference as God uses you powerfully to speak into their lives. You will also get chance to join in other areas of our work e.g. visiting homeless camps and rehab centres, working with girls trapped in prostitution, prison visiting, youth work and leading worship.
How much will I have to raise?
Option A – Will cost approximately £650 depending on flight costs and availability. This includes your flights, insurance, travel in location, accommodation, food and training.
Option B – Will cost approximately £800 for one month, £1,200 for two months, with a subsequent £600 per extra month. This includes your flight, insurance, travel in location, accommodation, and training. This is how much it costs us for you to be on team. We are happy to talk to you about this if raising the funds will be a problem for you.
