In January Grassroots officially started a pilot child sponsorship project with 3 churches in the drought hit area of Ndole, Zambia. A small group of children was selected from each church and Grassroots promised to try to find sponsors for them so they could get to school – for which they need uniform and a school user fee. There were other children and parents present (the villages have many hundreds of children without enough to get to school) so we explained that we need to see if new sponsors will come forward before taking on more children. Back here in the UK we have had a few new sponsors but COVID19 has distracted things a bit! Right now we need more child sponsors for Zambia (£4.25 per month or £51 for a year) to give us the green light to take on the next group of children ready to go into the schools as they open up. Are you meant to be one of them?
At the same time we are providing the churches with funds for feeding programmes for all the children. Some people have given to make that possible. The drought (and the COVID19 lockdown) has meant many children here are eating less than a meal every two days! So these feeding programmes are essential. Here are pictures of the churches receiving the funds from the KEVTC team and then the children eating the meals – with some social distancing! Sister Jere said “May the Lord truly bless Grassroots Uk and all the donors and volunteers supporting us here in Zambia.” Go to www.grassroots.org.uk/zambia to find out about sponsoring a child.
