100s of people share each public toilet in the Chennai slum. Most have to walk 100ms or more from their house to reach what amounts to a hole without a lockable door. The hole is just a pipe leading into the river next to the community. We dont have a solution to the big sewage problem (which the city council says it has a plan to fix with help from the world bank) but we can help families so they dont have to go out at night and face the danger that is there. Thanks to a generous donation via Grassroots SKM has been able to distribute loo buckets (in wonderful colours!) to each of the families Grassroots and SKM support. (Looks like an enormous xylophone!)
