Christmas party at Good Neighbours, Kenya

This was a first for El Shaddai Primary School where Grassroots sponsors children through the Good Neighbours ministry. The story is great. One of the UK families that sponsors children in Kenya was praying as a family just after receiving their sponsorship pack. As they prayed for each sponsored child the youngest child in the family said she thought God wanted the children in Theta to have a Christmas party.

So some generous donations later and a few phone calls to George and Grace… and a party with a Christmas celebration lunch was organised. There was singing, dancing, speaches (Kenyans love speaches), sweets, cake, gifts. We then told the Christmas story with costumes for Mary, Joseph, the donkey and the star. The Magi arrived and everyone held some myrrh and put frankinsense essential oil on their hands. We thought together about how WONDERFUL it is that God has come to be with us, to stand alongside us and to walk where we walk and experience what we feel. Then we all sang “Happy Birthday to you” to Jesus. After which a child was heard to say, “How old are you?”. An interesting question!

George said the children would remember this for ever. “We only eat this kind of food on very special occasions. They will know this is a very important day!”
