From Tim Flatman: Since my last prayer update, there has been much good news in Abyei. Sudan’s armed forces and police have withdrawn from Abyei town and the numbers in Abyei area as a whole are considerably reduced. Security has remained good with the Ethiopian peacekeepers (UNISFA) protecting returnees and no recent reported attacks on them. The numbers of returnees have risen steadily and beyond predicted levels, with 10,000 in the villages, 1,400 in the town and regular transport to Abyei town to enable more of the displaced people to go back to the town. However, there is still a lack of NGO presence in the area to support returnees and the fundamental question of the status of Abyei is still unresolved.
