All woke up early with the cockerel ready to head off to Deliverance Church Kasarani at 7.30am. What a treat was in store! This was a huge church of over a thousand people, all praising and worshiping God. And that was only their first service! Fantastic start to the day!
2 hours later, we needed to leave the service early to be at the church service in Theta. As we arrived in Theta about 20 smiling children were there to greet and give each of us a bunch of flowers. This church seemed very small and poor in contrast to DCKasarani and in the words of Sharon’s talk, ‘you don’t need money to make a church you need Jesus’. This is so apparent here. The children performed a dance and we were all introduced to the congregation. They found the name Adrian difficult to say, so they’ve given him the Swahili name of Karaoke – very fitting! Then worship and Sharon’s talk…fantastic!
Then it was time for Swallowship (food and chat) with the lovely people at Theta. It was wonderful to spend time with the children and adults, getting to know them, playing with the children and having fun.
Time went so quickly, and before long it was time to be on our way. But on reaching the van, we noticed that the tyre was flat.. an hour later, we were finally on our way again bumping along the dusty track to Watu. The tyre didn’t quite hold all the way to Watu, so we walked the last 10 minutes!
Quick stop at Watu wa Maana to finish some weighing, measuring and photos from yesterday, a little play and dance with some of the children, and then home…dusty, tired and ready for supper! A busy day ahead tomorrow.. Sophie
Tomorrow we will be interviewing new children at Theta who will be joining the sponsorship scheme.
