However hard we try to keep things easy to achieve in the UK (always working from our homes rather than having expensive offices) the workload keeps growing. Our part time staff and volunteers have kept the show on the road but there comes a time when it makes sense to increase the workforce. As well as Mbeya, we now have sponsorship programmes Kenya, India and Romania! Hugo and I also oversee the other Grassroots projects in Malawi, Peru, Spain, the UK and a other places.
In the last couple of years a number of schools, churches, brownie groups and other fantastic groups of motivated fundraisers and prayers have “linked” with different parts of the work. Some schools have linked to schools. Churches have started fundraising for specific projects and committed to sending team members regularly. Grassroots needs to support these links in a way that keepings them humming with great information, pictures and opportunities that are easy to access.
Jon White has been a friend for a while and is just the person for this role. We heard that he had graduated for LST and was looking for roles where he could contribute to seeing God’s justice increase in the world. So we head hunted him! Jon is now the Grassroots schools’ and partnerships’ link worker. He is here to help you get organised as a group to support what Grassroots is doing. If you would like ideas or resources on fundraising or need someone to inspire your school, youth group, pensioners lunch or scout/brownie group, then Jon is your man!
