The team's last day in Mbeya
-
13 November, 2011
Hot here today. Sweaty for church! Some of the team went to Tukuyu (50 km away to the South. About half way to Kyela). They spent time with the church there and then prayer walked around their community and met local people.
On the way home they bought 100s of bananas. "Why?" you ask. The bananas were then taken to the police station to give to the 200 people who were arrested during the riots 2 days ago. We discovered that the police do not feed people who they have locked in their cells!
Back in Mbeya church was a happening. At the Airport centre Ollie preached. At another centre in Mabatini, Elsbeth preached. Lots of prayers. Lots of tears. Children and adults all taking the opportunity to say "Kwaheri" (Goodbye) and "When will you come again?" and the youth saying, "Can I be your facebook friend?" Lots of hand shakes. Lots of final photographs. Children surrounding the cars as they try to drive away as the dusk begins to fall.
We are now all back at the Karibuni Center and packed before sleeping. 5am wake in time to catch an early bus for the end of the track. Minimum 12 hours on that bus tomorrow! It starts in the gentle heatr of a Mbeya morning ... and ends in 3 hours of high humidity in the stop/go of the Dar-es-Salaam rush hour.
What an amazing experience your journey has been... Wishing you every blessing for your return.
Sue, belated birthday greetings from all of your friends in ELS - clearly an unforgettable day!
Love from Rosemary & co.
May Lord keep your lamps burning (Ps.18:2
!Greetings for all the team and especially to Lidia: even if this is the first time we write to you, you are in our minds and hearts daily, we keep praying for you. The thing is we are very busy here, because you left us alone
. We can't wait for you to be back home so that you can share us about this work that glorifies God.
For everyone who is worried, the team all arrived by bus into Dar-es-Salaam last night about 8pm. They had a good nigh inh the hostel and felt a little more ready for today.
After breakfast and repacking they all got on a bus and went for one day of tourism at the beach!
They should now be back from the beach, at the airport and waiting for the flight home - first to Zurich and then 8.05am at Heathrow terminal 1.
So thanks for the prayers and we trust everyone will get home safely.
