The Blessing of rain!!!
-
09 November, 2011
We reach the half way point today, but still lots more to do.Two teams went out again. One team went to Airport and the other team went to 2 different locations called Pambogo and Shewa. The rain fell hard in the afternoon which made things more challenging. Tin rooves are very noisy when it rains. It was amazing that even with very little shelter people stayed to be interviewed - just shows how important this help is to them. In Tanzania rain is seen as a blessing. How different our world views are!!!
As with every day it would be impossible for us to do this work without the translators. Most of them are teenagers. It is hard work translating all day and we couldn't do this work without them. At the end of the day we all share a meal together.
In the evening a few of us went to meet with a group of women. The group are made up of women who are living positively with HIV. They meet together to support each other and they try to help each other when a need arises. Several of the women have children who are also HIV+. We spent a while listening to the women and talking to them and we were then able to pray for them. Not sure how we should help them more, but being HIV+ impacts thier ability to work as they tire easily and the lack of a balanced diet affects their imune system.... but in a country without any financial help if you are incapicatated in any way makes feeding a family very stressful and difficult. They have asked for assistence.
It would be a strange occurance in the UK to hear of a child or parent dying, but every day we are meeting children and parents who have lost relatives in the last 24 hours!! Life is hard.
