On the bus home!
-
16 November, 2009
It will take a while (12+ hours on this bus, a day in Dar, then catch the plane tomorrow evening) but we are on our way back home.Yesterday was fabulous. The morning service was packed and each of the 14 people being baptised told the story of how they came to know and surrender to the Lord Jesus. Lots of cheering and clapping. Then down to the river... amazing!
Once the service was over we were desperately packing things in. Some went to do some pastoral visiting. Others returned to the market. They had chosen garments the day before and the tailors had measured them and said come back Sunday afternoon. For some, it was the first time they had shopped on a Sunday. Oh well... the Sabbath made for man... and woman!
Then the evening service. George (from Kenya) and Sharon (from the UK) tag preached. Obvious way to do it if you are there, but hard to imagine if you're not used to that sort of thing. It was powerfuil time and full of all the emotion of the last night. It took ages to say goodbye. Each person in the team saying Kwaheri to each person locally and nobody must be missed out.
The team is in good spirits. We all had to be up at 5am to be at the bus stop at 6. Some of us are a little ill... which is never pleasant on a bus journey with 4 stops in 12 hours. The bus people give out 2 drinks and a packet of biscuits at differents points on the journey. At the lunch stop you can buy chips and kebabs... but they are somewhat dodgey; but often hunger overcomes caution. As the journey goes on (just after lunchtime) the road becomes very windy and the driver is often more used to the road than the British passengers in the front seat... so the level of intercession usually increases! Then, on approaching Dar-es-Salaam it gets hotter and hotter (very humid) and the traffic goes slower and slower... and we wonder if we will ever get there. When we eventually do, Sharon has the task of sweet-talking the bus driver to see if he will go the extra mile (from the bus station) and drop us at the hostel... so pray that is easy this time...
See you later.
MT 25:21 "His master replied, `Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
I meant to add emphasis on:
well done, good and faithful servant(s)...come and share your master's happiness.
will be praying for your safety and that you would have a good time debriefing all that you have experienced.
Well done everybody. I am so proud of you and I have a feeling God is mightily pleased with you and what you have achieved.
I am looking forward to hearing your stories.
I am praying for a safe journey and that those of you that are sick can find some comfort and peace.
