... water filters and solar lights. The lights are remarkably good and mean that people do not need to burn oil in tin cans - which is very dangerous. In each home the team demonstrated the lights and the filters. (The picture is an old old of a water filter we gave to the Thika women's prison)

We were at Good Neighbours and interviewed new children who need to be sponsored this morning. The need is very great. We had budgetted for 20 new children (although we don't have sponsors for all the children we took on last year yet!) and eventually enrolled 26 - more than intended. Learn more about how to sponsor a child here. Then the team separated into two groups. Some went to a Ringtone concert and others to a group that are making solar powered lights and mobile phone chargers out of babies bottles! They are fantastic. Ordered 15.

Today started with a bang. The car we've rented for the week went bang and stopped working.Without Ringtone we would have been stuck. The team loving having a star driving them around, stopping to do radio phone interviews. His new song No:1 in the Kenyan charts! Click here for a flavour.

Another busy day. Went to the Coffee Plantation School. Good people. Ringtone sang. Good discussion with teachers then Sally, Naomi, Rebecca, George, Ringtone and I went to the very smart coffee plantation next door and asked them to help the school. Very plush board room but positive meeting and they may provide porrige evey day to all children in sch under 7.Fascinating and a little scary! And, I am told, the coffee they provided was great!

Off to Kenya

07 July, 2011

I am sure you have seen the news regarding the food shortages in Kenya, Sudan and Somalia. Today there have been riots on the street in Nairobi protesting at the increasing cost of food. Tomorrow a team of 8 will travel out to Kenya to work alongside Grassroots partners. The team will be taking school lessons, installing water filters, and sharing life with the community in Theta and the street children centre “Watu wa Maana”. Each day we will update the blog to give you a taste of what is happening and things you can pray for. Please pray for the team which include a number of young people from The Stable Barnet.
Here (at the top) is a picture taken last year of the church in Theta with whom we will be spending most of our time. -

We have just received this letter from Dan from Kenya. He met him at Deliverance Church, Kasarani (on the edge of Nairobi). He came with us to Tanzania. Then, when we were visiting Kenya to start the new sponsorship programme we met up to discuss the things he is doing. his team ministers in the Thika Women's prison (that houses both the women and their children).
